TalkKids Summer Camps

The “TalkKids” Summer Camps have been created with the idea of providing a fun and educational linguistic summer experience for children who are 3 to 12  years old.

Since it has been repeatedly proven by second language acquisition researchers that younger children are more able to naturally acquire accent-free, native-like proficiency in a second language, we decided to make the most out of this advantage. Each and every one of our classes are experiences in themselves, since the “TalkKids campers” are exposed to the practice of not only all the language skills, but also to the learning of the characteristics of the Hispanic/ French and American cultures through the activities offered in the program.  The “TalkKids Language Summer Camp Program” consists of two basic elements, a Language Instruction module and a Cultural Activities module.

The Language Module: the Language Class

This module has the objective of presenting the target language in a formal instruction environment. The classes are always fun and memorable. The TalkKids learn contents and vocabulary which are then related to the rest of the day’s activities.

The Cultural Activities Module

This module consists of daily activities which are done by the TalkKids campers on a rotation basis. These activities are intended to reinforce the language contents learnt in the first module and at the same time they teach new vocabulary and characteristics of the Hispanic/French/ English speaking countries and culture. The activities are:

STORY TELLING AND CRAFTS

This activity presents the literature of the Hispanic/French or English speaking countries in the form of books, videos or slides. The campers dramatize the stories, learn where they come from and the reasons why they exist. Also, they work on craft projects from the Hispanic/French or English speaking world and learn about the art in those countries.
MUSIC AND DANCE

The TalkKids campers learn the different rythms of the countries whose language they are studying and they dance to them. Lots of fun and action!
GAMES

This activity presents a new way of playing games whereby “everybody participates, nobody gets hurt and everybody wins”. Board games, physical games and all sorts of active movement will be the main objective of this activity (always in the target language!)

TYPICAL FOOD

This activity introduces children to different foods that are typical of Hispanic/French or English speaking countries. They learn about the ingredients, the recipe and how to prepare the special dishes. They also participate in cooking and tasting dishes which is a lot of fun!

SPORTS

In this activity the campers play different sports making their outdoor experience  at the Camp really exciting!
LANGUAGE LAB

In this activity the campers visit the  language laboratory, where they practice the language and its pronunciation using computers.

How does it work?
Each of the weeks in the summer program covers a specific content unit that deals with topics related to the age of the summer camp participants. Every week, the TalkKids campers receive a "Take Home Information Sheet",  which contains information on the material and vocabulary covered during the week. This sheet is intended to provide another source of practice for the campers themselves; and also, an opportunity for the parent to learn with his/her child. All the language skills (speaking, listening; and where applicable, reading and writing) are practiced in each unit.

At the end of each session the TalkKids Summer Camp participants receive:

A Certificate of Completion
This is given at the end of each summer camp session.
